We went through multiple ecosystems and learned more than I could possibly remember about the geology of the island and the Hawaiian islands in general.
My husband and I took the Volcanoes National Park tour. It stopped at quite a few places along the southern and south-eastern parts of the island as well as allowing you to experience Saddle Pass and views of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea. We went through multiple ecosystems and learned more than I could possibly remember about the geology of the island and the Hawaiian islands in general. The trade off is not having time to hike through Volcanoes National Park if you want to do that, but we preferred a chance to witness the diversity we did and not having to drive. We stopped for a good meal that had a vegan option for me (green salad), which our kosher friends were able to eat as well. The coffee we sampled at the Heavenly Hawaiian Kona Coffee farm was fabulous! Our driver David and the people at the coffee farm were kind and extremely knowledgeable. Geo Tours was organized and kind enough to pick us up at the apartment we were renting. All in all a great day!

Best Island Tour!
A must tour experience! Such an incredible day. What is unique about This tour, is how much you learn about the island formation and the flexibility in where he takes you! We traveled with friends and booked the VIP tour…if you can swing it, definitely put Geotours on your itinerary! Erik will not disappoint. You can see that he is passionate about the island and what he does. Mingled well with our group, lots of laughs, great energy and had a BLAST!!!

We couldn’t have made a better choice!!! Definitely the guides know their stuff, from history of the island and its people to the geological topics that kept me entertained throughout the trip. We just about went around the island in vip style, the guys were well known everywhere they took us as well as knew their way. Will recommend it to a few friends that are planning to visit the island, it’s a must in your itinerary and couldn’t have made a better choice in tour guide services

GEO TOURS was easy to work with, exceptionally attentive response time to communication all questions prior to our trip. The cost of ANY tour and ALL tours are high in Hawaii- but for what you receive on this trip I felt that they were priced correctly in their marketplace. We stopped at interesting locations along the way: All of the ones they indicated and nothing felt like a big sales pitch anywhere which was great. If you are traveling with children be aware this is a LONG all day tour. If you're a car-sick kinda person like me - come prepared! I hate being loopy, but that's what I sacrifice to be with our whole group. Take your Bonine people! Our tour guide for our party of nine was Dave. Great guy! Knowledge, kind, engaging and obviously done this sort of thing a lot. I was a bit bummed we didn't get one of the actual geologists (as we were traveling with my brother who IS a geologist and when booking with Erik I mistakening thought he would be our tour guide that day. I knew it wasn't a private tour, and now I kind of wish I would have booked a private tour. We were so fortunate that the family we traveled with had delightful children and easy to combine our group with. What I realize in hindsight, is that it would be worth paying the price for private and having a little more wiggle room for our personal group. We were four adults and five siblings; 20,17,15,11,9. Dave on his own as a travel guide and driver was helpful, efficient, a gracious island host and very easy to be around. He didn't make up anything and was not grandiose; as some guides tend to be know-it-all-junkies. THANKS Dave for your kindness to our whole family. Thank you GEO Tours. The family voted you as their favorite vacation activity.

Our family (including two teenagers, ages 17 and 12) had an absolutely incredible day exploring Volcanoes National Park with David. If you are looking for a guide who combines deep scientific knowledge with a genuine passion for the island, David is the gold standard. His background in geology and botany turned the landscape into a living storybook. He didn't just show us the sights; he explained the 'why' and 'how' behind the volcanic formations in a way that kept both of our boys totally engaged. Beyond his superior expertise, David is just a fun-loving person to be around. He shared wonderful stories that gave us a real feel for the culture and history of Hawaii, and he went above and beyond to tailor the day so we could truly appreciate the most dramatic views. DEAR READER- STOP RIGHT NOW! IF YOU ARE ON THE BIG ISLAND- YOU NEED TO TAKE THIS TOUR!!!!! BOOK IT. David was an INCREDIBLE tour guide. My boyfriend and I have been in Hawaii for over two weeks and done many tours here, but this by far was our favorite one. We learned so much. David was so incredibly kind and informative. You could tell he genuinely cares about the volcanos, the island, the people and animals who live here, and the guests on the tour. He took the time to get to know everybody and he was SO GOOD with names and remembering people. He knew amazing details and stories about the island and the volcano and the coffee farm. My boyfriend is absolutely fascinated with volcanos and said it was his “once in a lifetime tour.” It was the perfect amount of guests too. Not too crowded. Amazing stops, each one was worthwhile. And- a very comfortable and clean van. DID YOU BOOK??? DO IT!

We had a fantastic time on our Hawaii Geo Tour with Eric — even with the rain and crazy fog! Eric kept the experience fun, engaging, and full of incredible information. We also loved so many of his recommendations for places to visit and places to eat; they really helped us make the most of our trip. If you’re worried it’s going to be a “boring rock tour” or involve too much walking, don’t be! The tour is well-paced, exciting, and gives you the chance to see a huge portion of what the island has to offer without feeling overwhelmed.
