DEAR READER- STOP RIGHT NOW! IF YOU ARE ON THE BIG ISLAND- YOU NEED TO TAKE THIS TOUR!!!!! BOOK IT. David was an INCREDIBLE tour guide. My boyfriend and I have been in Hawaii for over two weeks and done many tours here, but this by far was our favorite one. We learned so much. David was so incredibly kind and informative. You could tell he genuinely cares about the volcanos, the island, the people and animals who live here, and the guests on the tour. He took the time to get to know everybody and he was SO GOOD with names and remembering people. He knew amazing details and stories about the island and the volcano and the coffee farm. My boyfriend is absolutely fascinated with volcanos and said it was his “once in a lifetime tour.” It was the perfect amount of guests too. Not too crowded. Amazing stops, each one was worthwhile. And- a very comfortable and clean van. DID YOU BOOK??? DO IT!

Hawaii Geo Tours are the best!
Wow! Fantastic tour of the erupting volcano!!! The guides are geologists and explained so much about the volcano and how all the Hawaiian islands were created. The pictures I got during the day, and especially at night were incredible! The food and winery tasting were good too. I’ve done this tour twice in the past year and recommend it highly! I wish I could give more than 5 stars!!! 🤙

We did the volcano tour and it was enjoyable! Very small group, only 4, which was a plus. David was knowledgeable and he entertained the atmosphere. OK lunch provided . Snake and drinks also available throughout the day. Will do again with them next time in Hawaii big island.

As a geologist, his incredible knowledge about the island, natural phenomena and history was like having a documentary rolled into our vacation day.
Eric lead a private tour for family of four in his luxurious and spacious van and gave us one of the most memorable experiences of our travels! As a geologist, his incredible knowledge about the island, natural phenomena and history was like having a documentary rolled into our vacation day. We ate that up, asking him lots of questions and testing his knowledge. He passed with flying colors! When my daughter was confused about the difference between the Caldera and the additional craters, he explained it in multiple different ways until she understood it. Within one action-packed day, we covered almost everything listed on their website as typical top destinations, in addition, we did the hike down to the crater (must see!!!) and Thurston lava tube. He also arranged lunch with a caldera-side view. He was super flexible with our interests and change of plans, very thoughtful and funny, and an excellent driver, including on narrow roads, zero light, and sheets of rain. His van was even stocked with raincoats, if it wasn’t for this, we would not have been able to hike down to the crater. The tours are pricey, but it’s absolutely the best in terms of high-quality education and top notch service. We’ve been sampling private tours around the world over the years, highly recommend.

Our family (including two teenagers, ages 17 and 12) had an absolutely incredible day exploring Volcanoes National Park with David. If you are looking for a guide who combines deep scientific knowledge with a genuine passion for the island, David is the gold standard. His background in geology and botany turned the landscape into a living storybook. He didn't just show us the sights; he explained the 'why' and 'how' behind the volcanic formations in a way that kept both of our boys totally engaged. Beyond his superior expertise, David is just a fun-loving person to be around. He shared wonderful stories that gave us a real feel for the culture and history of Hawaii, and he went above and beyond to tailor the day so we could truly appreciate the most dramatic views. GEO TOURS was easy to work with, exceptionally attentive response time to communication all questions prior to our trip. The cost of ANY tour and ALL tours are high in Hawaii- but for what you receive on this trip I felt that they were priced correctly in their marketplace. We stopped at interesting locations along the way: All of the ones they indicated and nothing felt like a big sales pitch anywhere which was great. If you are traveling with children be aware this is a LONG all day tour. If you're a car-sick kinda person like me - come prepared! I hate being loopy, but that's what I sacrifice to be with our whole group. Take your Bonine people! Our tour guide for our party of nine was Dave. Great guy! Knowledge, kind, engaging and obviously done this sort of thing a lot. I was a bit bummed we didn't get one of the actual geologists (as we were traveling with my brother who IS a geologist and when booking with Erik I mistakening thought he would be our tour guide that day. I knew it wasn't a private tour, and now I kind of wish I would have booked a private tour. We were so fortunate that the family we traveled with had delightful children and easy to combine our group with. What I realize in hindsight, is that it would be worth paying the price for private and having a little more wiggle room for our personal group. We were four adults and five siblings; 20,17,15,11,9. Dave on his own as a travel guide and driver was helpful, efficient, a gracious island host and very easy to be around. He didn't make up anything and was not grandiose; as some guides tend to be know-it-all-junkies. THANKS Dave for your kindness to our whole family. Thank you GEO Tours. We had a fantastic time on our Hawaii Geo Tour with Eric — even with the rain and crazy fog! Eric kept the experience fun, engaging, and full of incredible information. We also loved so many of his recommendations for places to visit and places to eat; they really helped us make the most of our trip. If you’re worried it’s going to be a “boring rock tour” or involve too much walking, don’t be! The tour is well-paced, exciting, and gives you the chance to see a huge portion of what the island has to offer without feeling overwhelmed. We highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting a truly memorable and well-rounded Hawaii experience! 🌺

One of the best tours ever
What an excellent way to get to know the Big Island and learn about its unique place on Earth. Our tour guide Eric picked us up on time at our rented villa along with a number of other visitors and we proceeded to spend one of the better days on a tour of the island. Eric is one of the proprietors of the tour, is a degreed geologist and is truly an engaging and friendly person. The tour was excellent which combined both interesting sights and a tremendous amount of local knowledge about lava flows and local history. To say that this was worth the day spent would be to put it mildly. Even at twice the price, I would happily do this again and recommend the tour to anyone.

Felt like we saw the best of the island by the time we were finished.
This tour was awesome and the highlight of visit on the Island of Hawaii. Erik gave insights to the island’s geology as we went along the tour, which was very interesting. He also took us to some hidden gems off the typical tour route to see some really beautiful parts of the park. We started the day at a coffee plantation, then a black sand beach, volcano National park, lava tube and the finished the day rainbow falls. Felt like we saw the best of the island by the time we were finished. The hot lunch, snacks, and multiple drink options were a nice touch. Definitely recommend Hawaii Geo Tours.
